About Chan Buddhism

Chan is a Buddhist meditation school that is found throughout East Asia. It is known as Zen in Japan, Thiên in Vietnam, and Sŏn in Korea. Its distinctive form first took shape in China some fourteen hundred years ago. The aim of Chan is to live life with wisdom and compassion with all beings, which involves the direct awakening to the interconnectedness and impermanence of all things. The foundation of Chan is seated meditation, but ultimately Chan practice must extend to all aspects of daily life.
